Descrizione

La depressione indica un cambiamento dell'umore che va da una leggera sensazione di tristezza fino al più terribile livello di disperazione.

E' un fenomeno due volte più frequente nelle donne e la sua prevalenza è maggiore nell'età media.

I sintomi principali sono l'umore depresso, la perdita di interesse, la scarsa autostima, la mancanza di motivazione, l'affaticamento, l'ansia, l'insonnia e la perdita dell'appetito.

Nella Medicina Cinese, la depressione mentale è chiamata " Yin Yu " che significa melanconia o depressione.
Il termine Yu ha il doppio significato di depressione e stasi, per cui la depressione, secondo questa teoria, sarebbe causata sempre da una stasi.

I testi cinesi di solito attribuiscono la depressione ad una stasi di Qi del Fegato.

Nelle forme gravi il Fegato è sempre coinvolto a causa del fatto che esso ospita lo Hun (anima eterea). Lo Hun è responsabile dei nostri sogni, progetti, idee, senso di direzione nella vita e relazione con gli altri.
